Unacademy, India’s leading online learning platform, has officially announced the elevation of Sumit Jain to the esteemed status of cofounder. This move solidifies Jain’s pivotal contribution to the company’s growth and development.
Sumit Jain, who previously held the CEO and founder position at Graphy, has been instrumental in shaping Unacademy’s trajectory since he joined the organization more than three and a half years ago.
The announcement was made by Gaurav Munjal, Unacademy’s CEO and co-founder, through a tweet that acknowledged Jain’s outstanding dedication and accomplishments. In a tweet, Munjal shared, “I have some news to share. Sumit Jain, who has been with us for more than 3.5 years now, is now our new partner. Sumit has been like a cofounder to us since day one and has scaled Graphy to what it is today.”

In response to Munjal’s tweet, Jain expressed his gratitude and excitement, saying, “Gaurav, thanks a lot for the trust you have shown in me. The journey with Unacademy Group has been a roller coaster ride, full of challenges and learning. And I would not demand anything less. Very very excited to be a part of the Unacademy Group.”

Sumit Jain, a seasoned entrepreneur, began his journey with Graphy in April 2020. Before that, he was the mastermind behind CommonFloor, a venture that caught the attention of Quikr, resulting in a $200 million acquisition in 2016. Interestingly, CommonFloor had also shown support for Gaurav Munjal’s former startup, flat.to, a platform for discovering student accommodations.

Jain’s entrepreneurial spirit extended to angel investments in startups and previous funding for Unacademy.
Notably, Graphy expanded its horizons by acquiring Scenes, a community management tool enhancing opportunities in the creator economy, this past June. Additionally, in October 2021, Graphy made headlines again with the acquisition of Spayree, a toolkit tailored for content creators, at a value of $25 million.
