In a surprising development, Vivek Sinha, the COO of Bengaluru-based ed-tech giant Unacademy, has officially announced his departure from the company after three eventful years.

Sinha revealed his decision to step down through a heartfelt post on his social media accounts on Saturday.

“After three incredible years at Unacademy, I have decided to take the next step in my career. Grateful for the opportunities, friendships, and memories I have gained. Thank you for believing in me and constantly pushing me to operate at the peak of my abilities Gaurav Munjal,” said Sinha.

Gaurav Munjal, Unacademy’s CEO and co-founder, responded to Sinha’s announcement with warm regards, acknowledging his relentless dedication. Munjal’s response read, “Thank you @viveksinhaisb for being a part of Unacademy. You’re one of the most Relentless Leaders I have worked with. Best wishes for the future (sic).”

Vivek Sinha had a pivotal role as the COO at Unacademy, overseeing critical aspects of the business. His responsibilities encompassed managing the digital test preparation division, the hybrid learning centers, the K12 segment, and the jobs and skills verticals.

Sinha’s journey with Unacademy began in 2020 when he joined the company from hospitality startup OYO. At OYO, he held the position of separate business unit head and was responsible for managing luxury hotels within the OYO-SoftBank joint venture.

Prior to that, Sinha’s professional experience included roles at companies like Mobikwik and the construction technology startup Buildzar, which he co-founded.

This announcement comes on the heels of Unacademy’s recent elevation of Sumit Jain, the Co-founder and CEO of Graphy, the creator growth vertical within the organization, to partner.

Unacademy, while facing challenges in its core test-prep business, remains committed to its goal of achieving profitability. The company has implemented various cost-cutting measures, including employee layoffs and salary reductions.

Despite these challenges, Unacademy has managed to report positive revenue growth, showcasing its resilience and adaptability in the highly competitive ed-tech landscape.
