AI research startup Gibran has raised $2.6 million in a seed funding round led by Together Fund, co-founded by Girish Mathrubootham (Freshworks) and Manav Garg (Eka Software). The investment strengthens Gibran’s push to develop breakthrough AI models for scientific and creative applications.

The funds will be used to build foundational AI systems trained on small datasets, starting with the drug discovery space, where conventional large datasets are scarce due to limited patient populations. Gibran aims to solve this data constraint through a novel approach to machine learning.

Founded by Govind Balakrishnan and Srikant Chakravarti, Gibran is developing AI models that blend large language models (LLMs) with nature-inspired systems, enabling AI agents to recombine known patterns into fresh, original insights across domains.

The company’s platform-as-a-service model allows it to license proprietary AI tools to clients in life sciences, education, media, and creative sectors. Gibran’s generative systems hold promise not only for scientific hypothesis generation and drug R&D, but also for creative industries like filmmaking and design — areas where human-like ideation is key.
