Pune-based defence and photonics technology startup Olee.space has secured $3 million in seed funding, led by Rockstud Capital with participation from other global investors.
The funding will be used to scale production of its laser-based communication systems, advance quantum-secure communication protocols, and expand the company’s Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) systems roadmap.
Founded in 2023 by James Solomon (IIT Bombay alumnus) and Suman Hiremath, Olee.space develops next-generation Free-Space Optical Communication (FSOC) systems, quantum-encrypted networking solutions, and DEW platforms for defence applications.

Its FSOC technology uses low-powered infrared lasers to deliver ultra-fast, secure data transmission across land, air, sea, and space. The company is also developing an indigenous DEW platform for anti-drone, UAV, and anti-satellite operations, with precision tracking and real-time targeting.
With over five years of R&D, Olee.space has conducted field deployments, partnered with organisations like ISRO and the Indian Armed Forces, and is now expanding to cover oceans, high-altitude platforms, and long-range drone links.
