Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has invested in direct-to-customer (D2C) insurance platform Acko through his family office, Midas Deals. As part of the deal, Dhoni will also step in as the brand ambassador for the company.

The strategic investment aims to support Acko’s tech-driven, customer-first approach to insurance — an area Dhoni believes aligns with the mindset of modern India. While the deal size remains undisclosed, the company hopes the cricket icon’s involvement will boost brand trust and visibility.

Acko was founded in 2016 by Varun Dua and Ruchi Deepak. It is India’s first digital-native insurer, offering paperless, zero-commission insurance across auto, health, travel, and group health segments.

Currently, Acko serves over 78 million customers and has issued more than 1 billion policies. The company partners with over 50 digital players including Oyo, Zomato, redBus, and Urban Company for embedded insurance products. In FY24, the company crossed ₹2,100 crore in revenue, marking a 19.8% jump from the previous year.

It has raised over $458 million in funding to date, with major backers like General Atlantic, Accel, and Elevation Capital. Notably, rival insurtech Go Digit counts Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma among its investors and ambassadors.
